Arctic Blast
Posted onARCTIC BLAST – Well…that is what the news stations have named this set of storms. I think it’s so funny how they have to name each event.
Today is the first day of winter and I can seriously say that winter has officially hit us hard. We have been getting snow for a week now and we were absolutely pounded yesterday. We have so much snow that I don’t even know how much there really is. We have some snow drifts in our yard as high as 4 feet (from all the blowing snow) and other spots appear to be around 18 inches to 2 feet. I underestimated the depth last night when I decided to take a photo of our front yard. I am seriously impressed by the snow amounts. Unfortunately we were blessed last night with freezing rain on top of it all. I was seriously praying that we wouldn’t end up like my friend Earl Yorke and get left without power for days. We have been fortunate so far and now we are looking at a few more rounds of snow over the next 4 days.
Yesterday we all decided that we were going to build and igloo. It was to be so grandiose. So after getting a “How to Make an Igloo” education on YouTube we ventured out into the yard only to be devastated by the powder that would not pack. What a bummer. It’s not really fun playing in powder snow unless you are skiing. Oh well…maybe next time. It should be a White Christmas this year and for that I am thankful.
All in all it has been a very exciting week. We have been inside a ton this week and everyone is getting a little stir crazy so I hope the ice becomes manageable quickly. Happy Winter Solstice and Happy Holidays!

Great pix. We still have snow in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We have the tail end of your Arctic Blast.
We aren’t feeling the beauty anymore. It has been over a week and there is even more snow than when I took the above photos. We have about 3 feet of snow and 5 foot drifts. We are over the snow event. It’s snowing more today and expected to snow more tomorrow. UGgghhh!!! Fortunately, it is supposed to turn to plain old rain this weekend. I never thought I would be so happy to see rain. The question now is…how long is this stuff going to take to melt?
Wow! I love those pics. You really captured the beauty of the winter storm.
I got snow shoes too this year! We all did. We were tired of cold wet feet. I think I am going to post some video later today of the big amounts of snow. Our snow almost finished melting and on Thursday night we ended up getting another 5-6 inches and then last night it snowed some more! Our hills are sliding and even the right lane on the highway here in Sandy fell down a hill. It’s getting downright crazy around here. I am not able to work this weekend because there was a major mudslide that has closed the highway until Sunday night and the detour is an hour long and on a road that itself is high risk for sliding.
I am already wearing my coconut body spray from bath & body and daydreaming of warm sunny days!

P.S. We are so thankful for our Subaru too! It is an amazing vehicle in snow and ice. Josh says he thinks he will always own a Subaru now.
HA! Welcome to my world! I feel your pain and that’s why I’m so happy I got snow shoes this Christmas. That powder stuff always makes us
but it’s good for sledding so it’s not a total loss. I’m tired already with the slippery walk way and having to wait for some one to plow or not plow our drive way. Good thing we have a Subaru, otherwise I’d be wanting to move with my family in Cali by now.

We have a long winter ahead I’m afraid, but did I mention I have SNOW SHOES!
